Physician Assistant (PA) New Graduate Insurance

Liability Insurance For New Graduate PAs

At CM&F, we understand that transitioning from school to your first PA job can be a whirlwind experience. You’re focused on patient care, not expensive malpractice insurance. That’s why we offer low-cost malpractice coverage to recent graduates. If you have graduated within the past year and you are applying for full-time coverage, you are eligible for a lower annual premium while you are building your career.

How does a convertible claims-made policy work?

The Claims Made Convertible policy allows your Claims Made policy to convert to an Occurrence policy after 5 consecutive loss-free years of coverage with CM&F / Med Pro. After the completion of that 5th year you must purchase a full year Occurrence policy at which point we will issue an Extended Reporting Endorsement. This endorsement covers services subsequent to the retroactive date and prior to the expiration of the Claims Made Policy. The premium normally due for this ERP endorsement will be waived. Claims Made can be confusing so please contact us directly to discuss with our team at CM&F.

Why Should I Choose CM&F?

In the last 25 years, PAs have been exposed to large liability claims with no insurance protection after their insurance company went out of business. CM&F has always partnered with the strongest and most committed liability insurance companies to offer the most competitive and reliable PA insurance in the market. You will most likely never end up in a lawsuit, but if you are, the protection you have matters.

Do I need Occurrence or Claims Made coverage?

"Occurrence" or "Claims Made" refers to the type of coverage you'd be purchasing. This affects when you are able to report a claim on your policy.Claims Made: You are only able to report a claim on a claims made policy while the policy is active. For instance, if you let your policy expire, and then six months later a former patient brings a lawsuit against you for an incident which occurred during the policy period, a claims made policy would no longer cover that claim (unless you purchased an Extended Reporting Endorsement, or "Tail Coverage").Occurrence: An occurrence policy covers you indefinitely for incidents that occur within the policy period, meaning you are covered for the time period during which you had the policy even if it is no longer active. It is essentially the same as a claims made policy with a built-in Tail.

Does having personal liability insurance make me more of a target for lawsuit?

ABSOLUTELY NOT.  In the event of a lawsuit, the injured patient's lawyer will typically name everyone that was involved in the patients care.  Lawyers have no way of knowing who does or does not have malpractice insurance, as there are no public registries of private insurance contracts.  Our liability policy will provide coverage immediately upon notice.  That is the protection you need.

What are “Per Occurrence” & “Aggregate” liability limits?

Your "Per Occurrence," or "Per Claim," limit refers to the total amount the insurance company will pay per incident during the policy term. Your "Aggregate" limit is the total amount the insurance company will pay for multiple claims over the course of one policy term (which is often one year).

What is Professional Liability Insurance?

Professional Liability Insurance provides protection against covered claims arising from real or alleged errors or omissions, including negligence, in the course of your professional duties.  For Healthcare workers, this is commonly referred to as, "Medical Malpractice Insurance" or simply, "Med Mal." It can also be known as an "Errors and Omissions" policy.
