Insights from Incredible Health’s 6th Annual Report + What It Means for Professional Risk Protection
At CM&F Group, we work with nurses, technicians, and allied health professionals every day. That’s why we’re closely following the latest trends and reports shaping the healthcare workforce like the recently released Incredible Health’s 2025 State of Nurses & Technicians Report.
Based on proprietary data from over 1 million healthcare professionals and 1,500 U.S. employers, this year’s report paints a sobering yet hopeful picture of what it means to work in healthcare today.
Staffing Shortages & Rising Stress
One of the report’s most pressing findings: 80% of nurses say staffing shortages are negatively affecting their role, and 69% report having less time for direct patient care. Among technicians, 55% expect job pressure to increase in 2025.
These shortages are changing the face of care delivery—especially in high-demand specialties like ICU, Med-Surg, and Float Pool roles. Without adequate staffing support, professionals are shouldering more risk, more pressure, and more burnout.
Retention Concerns Are Climbing
The report found that nearly 1 in 5 nurses (18%) and more than 1 in 4 technicians (28%) may leave their current job by the end of 2025. Among seasoned professionals with 20+ years of experience, many are exploring new paths within healthcare—or considering retirement altogether.
While 85% still expect to stay in the field, the “how” and “where” they work is evolving rapidly. Remote opportunities, relocation, and flexible schedules are now at the center of career decision-making.
Financial Pressure is Undermining Mobility
Compensation and cost-of-living challenges are making it harder for healthcare workers to adapt to changing roles. The average signing bonus in 2024 was $12,600—down slightly from 2023—but that doesn’t offset the reality that 66% of nurses and 71% of technicians don’t feel fairly compensated.
Additionally, 55% cite housing costs and interest rates as major barriers to relocation, limiting their ability to pursue new roles—even when better opportunities arise.
Mental Health & Safety Still Need Attention
Only 25% of respondents rated their mental health as “very good”, and verbal or physical assaults remain common, especially in short-staffed, high-pressure environments. 46% of nurses and 24% of technicians reported being assaulted in the past year.
Top stressors? Long patient wait times, high staff-to-patient ratios, lack of leadership support, and financial strain.
AI Interest is Rising—But Training Is Lacking
While the majority of nurses and technicians (85% and 84% respectively) haven’t used AI on the job, most express interest in learning. Gen Z professionals are particularly open to structured, thoughtful implementation—especially in areas like patient monitoring, workflow automation, and data entry reduction.
Concerns remain around misinformation, loss of patient connection, and AI overriding clinical judgment.
Technicians Face Similar Challenges—with Less Support
Technologists and technicians reported parallel struggles but often with fewer institutional resources. Only 25% rated their mental health as “very good,” and 71% said they are not fairly compensated. Burnout drivers include inadequate staffing, limited advancement, and unclear training pathways.
Risk Management: Why Liability Protection Matters More Than Ever
The themes in this year’s report—burnout, role changes, safety concerns, and compensation limitations—aren’t just operational challenges. They’re risk multipliers.
When healthcare professionals are asked to do more with less, work outside their comfort zones, or navigate volatile environments without sufficient training or support, the potential for error increases. That’s why comprehensive, portable professional liability coverage is more important than ever.
At CM&F Group, we’re here to help:
- You’re changing roles or relocating? Your coverage moves with you within your scope of practice.
- You’re worried about employer-based coverage gaps? Our policies are built to protect you, not just the institution.
- You’re feeling the strain of burnout or patient overload? Knowing you have reliable malpractice protection offers peace of mind.
As healthcare continues to evolve, we believe that empowering professionals with the right tools—including tailored insurance—is critical to ensuring safer outcomes for providers and patients alike.
Final Thoughts
Incredible Health’s 2025 report is a powerful reminder that today’s nurses and technicians are dedicated, skilled, and resilient—but they need support. Whether that means stronger staffing, smarter technology, or better career pathways, one thing is clear: the future of healthcare depends on how we protect and empower the professionals delivering the care.
