From Medical Aesthetics to Heart Health: A Nurse Practitioner’s Mission

February 12, 2026   |   Medical Spa

When Carla Scheiber, FNP, is faced with an opportunity, her answer is always an emphatic yes. That’s how she found herself committing to raise $10,000 for cardiovascular research only a few short months after opening her brick-and-mortar medical spa in Webster, New York.

This weekend, Scheiber and her “Team Lovely You” are hosting a Galentine’s Day event in support of the American Heart Association’s mission to fight heart disease in women. With a DJ, food and vendors like tiny tattoos, permanent jewelry and, of course, Lovely You Aesthetics, the evening is sure to help Scheiber reach our fundraising goal –– not to mention attract existing and prospective patients.

For her efforts, Scheiber is being recognized as one of four local American Heart Association (AHA) Women of Impact.

From Labor and Delivery Nurse to Medical Spa Owner: A Career in Women’s Health

Before becoming a medical aesthetics provider and med spa owner, Scheiber was a labor and delivery nurse and then a nurse practitioner caring for women across major life and health transitions.

In those roles, she saw firsthand how conditions like preeclampsia can be a warning sign for future cardiovascular disease risk. “Even with my clinical lens, I didn’t realize just how big a risk cardiovascular disease is for women still today,” says Scheiber.

Despite all the advances in heart healthcare in 2026, cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in women.

Why Medical Spa Owners Should Care About Women’s Heart Health

What makes Scheiber’s advocacy for heart health more urgent wasn’t just clinical experience. It’s personal. Within the last couple of years, Scheiber says two friends had heart attacks — both without obvious risk factors. “Their symptoms were initially brushed off as anxiety,” she says.

As for her own health, Scheiber has struggled with weightloss throughout her adult life. She tried GLP-1 after friends suggested it and has become passionate about how it’s improved her health and quality of life. “Medication helped me maintain weight loss and also quieted the food noise in my head,” she says.

Because she speaks with women daily in her practice, patients began asking what she was doing differently. “People asked if I could prescribe this to them because they didn’t know who to trust, but they trusted me,” she says.

Based on these requests, Scheiber began offering weight-loss services at her aesthetic spa. She meets monthly with patients to monitor progress, adjust dosing and focus on long-term healthy lifestyle changes.

How to Organize Community Fundraising Events for Your Medical Spa

Scheiber’s passion for women’s health and clinical background drove her to say yes when the AHA asked her to join their campaign a mere months after her clinic’s grand opening. “I was like, I’m going to do this, and I’m going to take it seriously,” says Scheiber.

She formed Team Lovely You by pulling together her two new employees, family members, friends and like-minded entrepreneurs.

Besides the Galentine’s Day event, they’re also planning a “Check Your Numbers” event where people can have their blood pressure evaluated, learn about heart health and get med spa treatments.

The Business Benefits of Community Involvement for Medical Spas

Scheiber’s approach to fundraising aligns with what many clinician-entrepreneurs do best: combine community-building with the ability to just get things done.

Although Scheiber isn’t raising awareness for cardiovascular disease research as a marketing stunt, it does help promote her new clinic. The events are helping her meet many like-minded business owners who share her target market. Of course, it’s also bringing new faces in the door.

Scheiber feels proud to use her growing practice as a vehicle for giving back to her community. “It truly helps your business to be aligned with things that matter,” she says.

A medical spa owner might not at first seem like an obvious candidate for improving heart health, but Scheiber finds it’s all directly related. “When women feel better about themselves, they’re more likely to engage in caring for their overall health and well-being,” she says.
