In recent years, medical professionals have been exposed to large liability claims as a result of their poor coverage from low-rated insurance companies. Students studying in the healthcare field are just as susceptible to liability claims or negligence lawsuits as licensed professionals are. To ensure policy holders have the most competitive and reliable pharmacist assistant malpractice insurance in the market, CM&F only partners with the strongest and most committed liability insurance carriers.

There is significant risk in being named in a malpractice lawsuit, and the type of protection you have will matter if a claim arises. Some healthcare students may be told that they are covered by their school’s student liability insurance policy. But unless you are the OWNER of the policy, your interests could likely be viewed as secondary to your school should a claim arise. Your pharmacist assistant student insurance policy with CM&F is portable, going wherever you go so you always know you’re covered.

Do I need Occurrence or Claims Made coverage?

“Occurrence” or “Claims Made” refers to the type of coverage you’d be purchasing. This affects when you are able to report a claim on your policy.

Claims Made: You are only able to report a claim on a claims made policy while the policy is active. For instance, if you let your policy expire, and then six months later a former patient brings a lawsuit against you for an incident which occurred during the policy period, a claims made policy would no longer cover that claim (unless you purchased an Extended Reporting Endorsement, or “Tail Coverage“).

Occurrence: An occurrence policy covers you indefinitely for incidents that occur within the policy period, meaning you are covered for the time period during which you had the policy even if it is no longer active. It is essentially the same as a claims made policy with a built-in Tail.

For our clients: All the products we offer for Allied Health specialties include Occurrence Coverage, and so you never have to worry about a Tail!

Does having personal liability insurance make me more of a target for lawsuit?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. In the event of a lawsuit, the injured patient’s lawyer will typically name everyone that was involved in the patients care.  Lawyers have no way of knowing who does or does not have liability insurance, as there are no public registries of private insurance contracts. Our liability policy will provide coverage immediately upon notice. That is the protection you need.

How quickly can I get my coverage documents?

You can either apply online or download your application and mail or fax it to our offices. Below are the turn around times for each method:

  • If you apply for coverage online via our CM&F Online Web Applications*, you can pay for and receive proof of coverage in MINUTES!
  • Printing and Mailing a PDF application can delay the receipt of your coverage documents by a few weeks due to mailing time.
  • You can always fax your paper application to 212-608-4378, and we will process within a few business days, then mail your policy documents out to you, which may take a week or more.

If you have the ability to pay with a VISA or MasterCard, we recommend applying for coverage online.  The process usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete and once you submit your application, you are emailed your coverage documents in minutes–No Delay, No Headache.

If you can’t complete the online application but need your documents right away, you can always fax your application to the number above and include a note directly on the application requesting that we mail or fax your documents as soon as we process.

*Need help applying? See How Do I Apply For Coverage for instructions on accessing our Online Applications.

What are "Per Occurrence" & "Aggregate" liability limits?

Your “Per Occurrence,” or “Per Claim,” limit refers to the total amount the insurance company will pay per incident during the policy term. Your “Aggregate” limit is the total amount the insurance company will pay for multiple claims over the course of one policy term (which is often one year).

What is Professional Liability Insurance?

Professional Liability Insurance provides protection against covered claims arising from real or alleged errors or omissions, including negligence, in the course of your professional duties.  For Healthcare workers, this is commonly referred to as, “Medical Malpractice Insurance” or simply, “Med Mal.” It can also be known as an “Errors and Omissions” policy.
